Beyond: Prayer

Prayer

Prayer is simply bringing our requests to God, listening, and paying attention to His response. For 50 years, every step forward at Mariners Church has been covered with prayer. We listen and focus our attention on God to see where and how He’s working, and His direction for how we can serve others well.

This 5-week prayer guide is designed to anchor our prayers in Scripture (a daily verse Mon-Fri), as we seek God’s favor and direction in reaching BEYOND ourselves and into our community. Pray the Scripture throughout your day and ask God to speak to your heart.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Ephesians 6:18

WEEK 1 – REJOICE

Whether you’re new to Mariners or have attended for 50 years – you are part of the God story that continues today. Celebrate how God has led and blessed, give thanks for all He’s done in the past, what He’s doing now, and how He wants to partner with each of us.

T | Psalm 31:19
W | Psalm 103:17-18
TH | Psalm 36:5-6
F | Psalm 89:1-2

WEEK 2 – REVIVE

Every day, people come to our church seeking refuge – discouraged, wounded, afraid, weary, and living without purpose. Pray that we, as Mariners Church, can bring comfort, provide basic necessities, and be the place where people with needs can find hope.

M | Matthew 5:4
T | Psalm 147:3
W | Proverbs 13:12
TH | Isaiah 40:31
F | Psalm 68:5-6

WEEK 3 – RESTORE

Romans 8 says that all creation “groans,” waiting for God’s ultimate restoration. The brokenness in the world can feel overwhelming; individuals, families, unwanted children, abuse. God longs to heal, creating new opportunities and the resources to move forward. Pray for our community to open their hearts to God’s love for them.

M | Matthew 5:3 (NIV)
T | Matthew 5:7 (NIV)
W | Matthew 5:9
TH | James 1:27
F | Isaiah 58:7

WEEK 4 – RELATE

We live in a multi-cultural world and a diverse community. Pray that as Mariners Church we will sacrificially love the immigrant and the refugee – as image-bearers of God – giving of our abundance and advocacy to serve the needs of those whose language we may not speak and whose skin color and customs might be different than our own.

M | Ephesians 4:1-3
T | Isaiah 61:1
W | Luke 10:27-29
TH | Romans 12:16
F | Matthew 25:40

WEEK 5 – RESPOND

We want to be wise stewards of all that God has so generously provided us – as individuals, as families, and as a church. As we re-purpose the Community Resource Center to more intentionally serve the needs of our community, ask, “Lord, what do you want me/us to give to help fulfill your will to meet the needs of people in our growing and changing community?”

M | Psalm 78:4
T | Matthew 6:20-21
W | Acts 2:42-47
TH | 2 Corinthians 8:7
F | 2 Corinthians 9:8-11
